SMOS Science Conference

& 15 Year Anniversary

                   2-6 NOVEMBER 2024 | Catania, Sicily

Objectives

This conference aims at gathering the wider scientific community to take stock of achievements in L-band passive microwave remote sensing, exchange ideas between the different application domains and to drive L-band radiometry toward the future. The conference will highlight SMOS achievements over the land, the ocean, the cryosphere and most recently for space weather. In view of the upcoming application to extend the SMOS mission operation for the years 2026-2028 this conference will also offer a unique and timely opportunity to discuss upcoming scientific challenges and future focus areas of SMOS.

Participants are invited to contribute feedback on the three mission objectives Climate, Science and Operational Applications addressing:

  1. SMOS and the Water & Energy Cycles
  2. SMOS and the Carbon Cycle
  3. SMOS and Interfaces, Coupling and Exchanges in the Earth System
  4. SMOS for Climate Studies and Fundamental Data Records
  5. SMOS and Societal Benefits: Extremes, Hazards and Operational Services
  6. Advanced methods in L-band radiometry
  7. Calibration, Validation and Ground Based Sensors
  8. Future L-band Radiometer Mission Concepts
